The group OPRICH was found in cold autumn 1998. The members of OPRICH came from a hard-core project KONTRA. In the beginning it had former name.
Having completed the membership of the group with two vocalists who can also play the flute the group began to realize earlier born ideas under the leadership of Jaromir. Two-part voice of folk melodies and flute’s tune merged in heavy sounding of guitars.
The necessity of Russian-speaking name had become obvious, so the name OPRICH appeared. According to The Dal’s dictionary this Old Russian word means “from without”, “vice versa”, “against” - that is negative, opposition and struggle. OPRICH directs the edge of a hard militant spear at Christianity and bourgeois value system which transmute the Slavs into obedient and politcorrect inhabitants who are outsiders on their own land.
The words of OPRICH songs are full of heathen characters in its northern form. This form is the most close by Top Volga population. Peculiarities of local dialect also used in the songs.
As a result of searching for brothers-in-arms OPRICH maintains friendly relations with Jaroslavl Slavonic community.
The members of OPRICH appear on stage in national dresses. OPRICH’s concerts are bright act which is full of strength and savage fury. It is worth seeing!
Russian patriotic label Stellar Winter records edited mini album OPRICH “Wolfen loyalty” in spring 2005. It was a split with Ukrainian group KRODA. This release symbolizes community of north and south Slavic branches.
At present OPRICH works at full-size album creation. As well as the group records a split-album with Ukrainian group TCHUR. 4-track EP "Ognetzvet" (“Fire Flower”) showed the group from a slightly unexpected side presenting to fans Russian folk songs in metal arrangement.
And again this achievement came together with a loss. Triden and Bersen’ left the band, each owe to own reasons. Without losing time we invited MournGrimm, a rather skilled drummer from Rybinsk, and Pan to a microphone stand. With this line-up OPRICH played at Moscow Pagan festival “Funeral of Winter”.
In the first summer days of 2009 OPRICH started recording a full-length album “North The Boundless”. Recording and mixing went on slowly as the band’s members live in different cities now. However it doesn't stop us. We keep on concert activities, and we share a stage with such groups as KRODA, ZNICH, DJUR, TEMNOZOR, CHUR, PIAREVARACIEN, NEBOKRAI, NAVJARMAAHR, and also NARGAROTH and TAAKE.
Seeing the great strength of music as a way of propaganda, OPRICH directs its creative aspirations for service to the cause of United Slavdom. Therefore simultaneously with the album recording we begun creating of the new stuff for TRIUNITY project intended to unite patriotic musical groups of Belarus, Ukraine and Russia in an appeal to the unity.
OPRICH, with the honour of taking part on behalf of Russia, prepares three new songs for this project.
In a year after the beginning of “North The Boundless” recording it is finished. By then, simultaneously with work on songs for TRIUNITY, we have already started creating in full force our new stuff, which is planned to release as a split NEBOKRAI (Moscow). The 4-song part from OPRICH will be a conceptual tale on the Northern Winter.
